Un-Armed Guard Armed Guard Enhanced Course

NYS Security Guard Training Courses (Un-Armed)

 

Eight Hour Pre-Assignment Training Course
This is a general introductory course. Upon successful completion of this course the guard is issued a training certificate. This certificate must accompany the security guard's registration application when submitted to the NYS Department of State. Once the application is submitted, the guard has 90 days to complete the second training course.  Our course includes assistance in the completion of all NYS Division of Licensing Services required paperwork.

16 Hour On-the-Job Training Course (OJT)
This must be completed within the first 90 days of employment. This training program is relevant to the guard's duties, requirements of the work site, and the needs of the employer. Schools may conduct this training in an approved classroom setting or at an approved work site which is conducive to learning.

Eight Hour Annual In-Service Course
This training must be completed each calendar year following completion of the 16 Hour OJT course. This program is designed to meet current training needs and refresh or update guards in changes in the security field. The guard must complete this course as a prerequisite for renewal of his or her guard registration with NYS Division of Licensing Services.

NYS Armed Security Guard Training Courses

Once the application is submitted, the guard has 90 days to complete the second training course.  Our course includes fingerprinting and the assistance in the completion of all state required paperwork.

16 Hour On-the-Job Training Course (OJT)
This must be completed within the first 90 days of employment. This training program is relevant to the guard's duties, requirements of the work site, and the needs of the employer. Schools may conduct this training in an approved classroom setting or at an approved work site which is conducive to learning.

47 Hour Firearms Course
Guards who carry firearms are required to complete this course  before they can be licensed as an armed security guard. This course includes seven hours of classroom instruction in the Use of Force (NYS Penal Law Art. 35) followed by a written examination, and 40 hours on the firing range followed by weapons qualification. Upon successful completion of this course the guard is issued a training certificate. This certificate must accompany the security guard's registration application when submitted to the Department of State.  You must have a valid NYC or NYS pistol permit.  No exceptions.

Annual Eight Hour Firearms Training Course*
This course includes three hours of classroom refresher on the Use of Force followed by a written examination, and five hours of weapons qualification which includes a proficiency examination. The guard must complete this course as a prerequisite for renewal of his or her armed guard registration.
*In addition to taking the 8 hour Annual Firearms course, an 8 hour Annual In-Service course must be taken for renewal of his or her armed guard registration*

NYS Office of Homeland Security Enhanced Security Training

 

This program is for currently licensed NYS Security Guards.  It is intended to support and complement the existing security guard training and counter terrorism efforts in New York State by providing training and education designed to: Improve observation, detection, and reporting skills Improve coordination with local police, fire, and emergency services Provide and improve skills in working with advanced security technology including surveillance and access control procedures Consists of instruction requiring at least 40 hours of training with a minimum of 3 hours devoted to terrorism awareness.

FDNY Fire Guard Exam Prep Course

 

This two hour course is provided to prepare applicants for the Fire Guard Certificate of Fitness F-00 exam.

 

The course will achieve the following:

           - Establish an understanding of the application process

           - Familiarize applicants with test rules and regulations, as well as times and locations for the exam

           - Guide applicants through the material covered on the exam including:

                           Fire guard duties and regulations in hotels, motels, shelters, film studios, places of public assembly

                             and marinas

                           • The proper use and inspection of fire alarm pull stations, fire extinguishers and sprinkler and

                             standpipe systems

                           • Emergency procedures in the event of a fire

                           • Safety signs and their proper content and positioning in the interior and exterior of the premises

 

A practice exam will be provided at the conclusion of the course which may be kept as study material.

This course is for informational and preparatory purposes only

It is not an FDNY requirement to take a prep course prior to the exam
